    Dakhineshwar Kali Temple is located in Dakshinaswar, Kolkata, about 3 kilometers from Dunlop and 3 kilometers from Bailur Math. This temple is known as Bhavatarini, Parashakti Adya Kali, and Adishakti. This temple was built by Queen Rashmani in 1855 and is situated on the bank of the Hooghly River.

    History of Dakhineshwar Kali Temple (Story of a  dream of night)

    In 1847, Rani Rashmoni planned to install the statue of Kali Maa at some remote place in Banaras and prepared her relatives and servants for the long journey. Rani Rashmoni got 24 boats ready and along with her relatives and servants started going on a long journey from 24 North Parganas (Nadia) towards Banaras. When she reached Dhakhineshwar village with her people, it was night and they planned to stay there. When Queen History--Rashmoni was sleeping at night, Gones Mata Kali came in a dream at midnight and said, daughter, you do not need to go to Banaras, you build a very beautiful temple at this foot and get my statue installed at this very place. Then the queen woke up in the morning and decided to build a temple under Dhakhineshwar Village.

    Rani Rashmoni talked to the people of Dhakhineshwar village and bought 30,000 acr of land and a very beautiful three-storey south-facing temple was built between 1847 and 1855.

    Built in the navaratna or nine spires style of Bengal architecture, the three-storeyed south-facing temple has nine spires distributed in the upper two-story and stands on a high platform with a flight of stairs, overall it measures 46 feet (14 m ) square and rises over 100 feet (30 m) high
     

    This temple is a three-story south-facing temple in the Naratna style of Bengal architecture. There are 12 Siva temples in front of the main gate of this temple, in front of which is the ghat of Hooghly River. To the north-east of the temple is the Vishnu Temple and Radha Kanta Temple. There is a room under this temple in which Ramakrishna's photo is kept. Here Lord Vishnu and Radha are remembered by praying feet.

    From Howrah Bus Stand

    There is a facility to go to Dhakhineswar Kali Temple from Howrah by bus. Every hour buses are available bus no 230/1 and 79 whose ticket fares 16-20 hrs and takes 29 minutes time to reach Dakhineshwar Kali Temple. The distance from Howrah to Dakhineshwar is 10 km.

     

    From Airport  

    Kolkata airport named Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport is in Dum Dum. Bus and taxi facilities are available from the airport to reach Dhakhineswar Kali Temple. From Raja Rammohan Sarai which is the bus stand near the airport, it takes 11 kilometers and 55 minutes to reach Dhakhineswar Kali Temple. The bus fare is 40 rupees.

Where people stand in line and give the Prasad to the Pandit for grazing. And Pandit ji returns with Prasad and flowers. After entering the Prasad gate, you can buy it from anywhere as per your wish. And where you buy Prasad, you can keep your bag, mobile and slippers. Because it is prohibited to take anything other than Prasad under the temple. And if a separate mobile bag and shoe is also made to keep it handy. Where the fee is Rs 20.
