In 1847, Rani Rashmoni planned to install the statue of Kali Maa at some remote place in Banaras and prepared her relatives and servants for the long journey. Rani Rashmoni got 24 boats ready and along with her relatives and servants started going on a long journey from 24 North Parganas (Nadia) towards Banaras. When she reached Dhakhineshwar village with her people, it was night and they planned to stay there. When Queen History--Rashmoni was sleeping at night, Mata Kali came in a dream at midnight and said, daughter, you do not need to go to Banaras, you build a very beautiful temple at this foot and get my statue installed at this very place. Then the queen woke up in the morning and decided to build a temple under Dhakhineshwar Village.
Rani Rashmoni talked to the people of Dhakhineshwar village and bought 30,000 acr of land and a very beautiful three-storey south-facing temple was built between 1847 and 1855.
Built in the navaratna or nine spires style of Bengal architecture, the three-storeyed south-facing temple has nine spires distributed in the upper two-story and stands on a high platform with a flight of stairs, overall it measures 46 feet (14 m ) square and rises over 100 feet (30 m) high
This temple is a three-story south-facing temple in the Naratna style of Bengal architecture. There are 12 Siva temples in front of the main gate of this temple, in front of which is the ghat of Hooghly River. To the north-east of the temple is the Vishnu Temple and Radha Kanta Temple. There is a room under this temple in which Ramakrishna's photo is kept. Here Lord Vishnu and Radha are remembered by praying feet.
